I’m so excited to announce that our first book of the month will be The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. Thanks to everyone who voted on Goodreads and Twitter — later this month, we’ll open the polls again for our February book pick!
For now, it’s time to start reading. For this first month of our Reading is Magic book club, we’re keeping things simple with a few blog posts discussing the book as we read through it. We’ll state up front which chapters we’re covering, so you can read along without worrying about spoilers from later in the novel! At the end of the month, we’ll post a full reflection and/or review of the book.
How to Read Along
If you’d like to participate, please share your thoughts in the comments on our blog posts! Or better yet, join us on Goodreads, where we’ll have discussion threads going all month. 🙂
Graphic novel for younger readers
If you want to share this book with younger readers, there’s a great graphic novel that’s perfect for 5th-8th graders. Because it’s a shorter, more visual representation of the story, it’s easier to digest — but still provides the full story, so you can discuss as a family or in your classroom even if others are reading the full novel!
You can keep up with our latest posts about The Golden Compass with our weekly bulletin! Here you can find all of our latest posts and goodies in one convenient spot, just once a week. 🙂
